The Grateful Dead is one of the longest-lived bands in rock and roll, with a history that spans more than thirty years. For people who have never heard their music, the name Grateful Dead is likely to conjure up an image of a heavy metal band that is devoted to nihilism. On the contrary, the Grateful Dead plays psychedelic cowboy jazz, and they are one of the most life affirming bands in rock and roll.
The Grateful Dead’s copyright policy makes a distinction between concert recordings made with microphones (commonly known as aud tapes) and concert recordings that patch directly into the soundboard. Furthur’s lineup includes two founding members of the Grateful Dead: Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. Phil is probably the most original bass player in all of rock and roll. Bob plays rhythm guitar like no one else, with unusual syncopated rhythms that have to be heard to be believed.
