I grew up in Southern California during the 1960s and never imagined as a young person that I would one day write computer code.

As a child my favorite subjects were Art, English, and Social Studies. The type of thinking required for writing code intimidated me back then. After leaving school I found a career in healthcare that lasted 19 years.

My healthcare work included teaching patients new skills. I have always loved to teach. I worked in stroke rehabilitation for 4 years, and that was the most teaching intensive job I have ever had.

I’m a life long nature lover. I go on day hikes in local nature areas, and when I go backpacking I stay out for weeks at a time. I have a strong interest in sports nutrition and plan backpacking menus by calorie count. You can check out my nutritional research on my backpacking food web site. I took up landscape photography in 1991 and have found it to be a satisfying endeavor.

I love to eat and cook. I have combined my loves of teaching and gourmet cooking by writing down recipes for my favorite dishes. I have created a home cooking web site in order to make these recipes available to the public.

During 1997 and 1998 I bred pet rats. Rats are very sociable creatures and they are very fond of each other as well as of humans. I selectively bred for kindness towards other rats. I built up an exceptionally nurturing colony in which girls who hadn’t gotten pregnant would help nurse the babies.

I tired of my healthcare career in 1999 and decided it was time to go to school again. I chose to pursue a college degree in multimedia. I plan to utilize the knowledge gained in my former career by producing health education materials in my new career.
